Description

The Cascara Sagrada is extracted from the dried bark of a small tree (Rhamnus Purshiana), originally from the California area (USA). Its active ingredients are anthraquinonic compounds.

 

Actions and Uses

Laxative in constipations, especially in case of cardiovascular disease, hemorrhoids, post-surgery, and for short periods, only when other treatments such as dietary changes or the use of “mass-forming” laxatives (fibers) have failed.

Formula

Each 4.5g candy contains:

  • Sacred dust shell (from Rhamnus purshiana D.C. Rhamnaceae shell) 120 mg
  • Sodium Picosulfate 3.5 mg
  • Excipients: coprocessed lactose, polyvinyl alcohol, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, quinoline yellow lacquer, allura lacquer red, bright lacquer blue: c.s.

Presentation

40 tablets

Recommended intake

Oral use Two to three tablets per day, at night before bedtime, adjusting the dose according to the needs of the individual. Maximum dose: three tablets per day. Children under 12 years: Do not consume. Pregnant or breastfeeding women: do not consume.

Adverse effects

Its use for prolonged periods or in high doses can lead to the appearance of hydroelectrolytic imbalances (more frequently loss of potassium), albuminuria, hematuria, deposition of pigments in the intestinal mucosa (colonic pseudomelanosis) and colonic atony. All these alterations usually return to normal when the medication is suspended. Loss of potassium can lead to cardiac and / or muscular abnormalities especially in patients receiving concomitantly digitalis, diuretics and / or corticosteroids.
